Proverbs 17:22 says “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”
In a time where people are asked to avoid others due to a pandemic, it is easy to get depressed or down trodden. When you are asked to stay home and not travel, it is easy to start feeling isolated. It is easy to be lead to a crushed spirit, which can be detrimental.
Proverbs 17 says you should focus on having a joyful heart for it is good medicine. Instead of looking at the isolation, it is a good time to look at the opportunities that are available. It is a time to read a book (possibly the Bible you might be avoiding) or to write an email to that friend you’ve not seen in years. It is a good time to pick up an instrument or start a craft. Coloring isn’t just for kids. When’s the last time you colored a picture? If the weather is warm where you are, when’s the last time you simply put out a blanket in the yard and stared up at the clouds? In our fast paced world, this is a chance to stop, take a deep breath, and remember that there is a lot to be joyful about – and that might just be the medicine you need!
